Ad industry luminary, Guy Phillipson, named as the new Chairman of JICWEBS
JICWEBS Ltd – the cross-industry committee which define standards and best practice for digital advertising – today announced that industry veteran Guy Phillipson will become its new Chairman. Guy replaces Richard Foan who established JICWEBS with four stakeholder trade bodies (ISBA, the IPA, the IAB and the AOP) and signaled his intention to leave last year.
Guy Phillipson is a highly respected leader and innovator in the sector. During his tenure as CEO of the IAB UK from 2005 to 2017 digital advertising surpassed 50% of total UK media spend. As a previous JICWEBS Board member, Phillipson was instrumental in setting the committee’s focus on brand safety, ad verification and anti-fraud programmes. The former head of advertising at Vodafone went on to chair the digital media agency iCrossing after the IAB, so has a wealth of buy- and sell-side experience.
This follows the announcement in November last year that JICWEBS had hired its first CEO, appointing Jules Kendrick into the role.
Guy Phillipson said, “As internet advertising continues to boom worldwide, I’m a big believer in robust and transparent standards for efficient and safe ad trading. So, I’m delighted to be invited to become the Chairman of JICWEBS following Richard Foan’s years of sterling work building such a credible and essential organization.”
Phil Smith, Director general of ISBA said, “We now have the opportunity to build on JICWEBS’ success to date by extending and reinforcing the self-regulatory regime for our industry. Guy is a great addition to the team and will complement Jules Kendrick’s skills and experience, with the full support of the Executive Board.”
Jon Mew, CEO of IAB UK, added, “Industry self-regulation works best when accomplished and motivated people make it happen. Guy is the perfect addition to the team.”
Jules Kendrick, CEO of JICWEBS said, “Guy is extremely well respected in the digital advertising industry and has played an active part in the JICWEBS journey to this point. I’m very much looking forward to working with him to help shape the future of our dynamic and fascinating industry.”
